Just a few pointers about parents of youth models:

  • Your child's look changes quickly; you'll want to update their portfolio every 6 to 12 months.
  • Due to the unpredictable nature of children, your child will most-likely be part of a set of children shooting the same series with only one child being selected. Your child may be having a great day and their images are used, but they may also be having a bad day and thus another child is selected.
  • Are you ready and able to transport your child where the work is (ex. a major city) and within a short timeframe (ex. the next day)?
  • When creating a portfolio/comp card for your child, consider the following:
  • Have a mix of studio and on-location shots lighting that is flattering.
  • Include some headshots (head and shoulders) and full length within the portfolio
  • Include some well lit candid shots to show their character in a natural setting.
  • Don't create a large portfolio, just a current sampling of their best images (3 or 4 images).
  • Mail a copy of printed images to an agency. The current format is 8x10 prints; but use professional portrait paper for the best look.
